Just want to share these pictures which I took at Semporna's wet market 2 months back.

Last week Sabah state Tourism Minister Datuk Masidi hopes to ban shark finning in the stae. How will this pan out ? Sipadan Island, the world famous Sabah Island have had many divers coming to witness the spectacular wall and it's marine life.

However shark finning is still happening daily in this small coastal town off Sabah.

Well demand is there, supply is there; hope the state government will be able to make an example to the region and creates awareness on shark finning.

Please do your part to stop this cruel killing, finning the shark for it's only for it's fin is CRUEL !

Mola Mola aka Ocean Sunfish

The above short video was taken last year, it was my 6th years affairs with this mysterious fish. My 1st encounter was last year. It was a journey that had been filled with excitements as well as near escape from death. This is my second year seeing ..

Nusa Penida's Crystal Bay, the dive site that is world famous for the ocean sunfish's yearly visit had claimed a few lives as well as alarmed a few about life's preciousness. Nonetheless this is a sweet pursuit.

For me it is a journey of self discovery ! Knowing your limits and follow the rules, live another day for the next experience.

Derawan / Sangalaki

Recently a group of friends from Bangkok and me went for a mini expedition to Derawan , Sangalaki, Kakaban and Maratua. I consider this place mecca for Asia diving .. non stinging jellyfish lake, manta cleaning station, wall dive, channel dive and turtle hatchery. This destination is truly the destination of Asia diving at it's best !

Derawan being the main administrative island in the region is very wel organise in terms of it's village and also connectivity via public boat transfer; the island also have a clinic, primary and secondary school.

Sangalaki island is a turtle hatchery location for a local NGO and use to be the base for Sangalaki Dive Lodge which is now ceased by the local government. Sangalaki island is the manta cleaning station and also turtle heaven.

Kakaban Island, the one of 2 unique lake that houses the non stinging jellyfish lake in the world, is a another heaven for wall dive besides the jellyfish lake.

Maratua island is a horse shoe shape island; and house a beautiful lagoon. Diving here is all about drift and current. When the tide is moving, that is when the action starts and the show begins ! Pelagics come to find food ...

All in this destination is truly a mecca for all divers alike ..

I just came back from Lembeh and Manado. Had some macro shots to share

this is arrowhead crab .. and it's about 2cm in size, I was using macro mode and had to go a little close.

this hermit was not shy at all .... use normal mode with flash ..

this was a big porcelain crab so didn't really need to go real close up ...

try using the macro mode with a uw torch rather then camera flash ! it work magic ...

until the next round I'll upload more shots, meanwhile wishing you and Happy Rabbit year !!

Here I am going to start a series of collections which I took during my diving trips and my 'stubbornness' in using a compact camera over a DSLR. Just want to share with you what point and shoot can do ... I use only a Canon Ixus870 with an underwater torch; Illuminox which is a focus light, so my subjects are all macro/close up subjects ..

the light is really focus on ... hence creating a black background.

this boxer crab, we were at Lembeh in less then 5 m depth with surge .. so I manage to snap only 3 lucky shots !!

the baby frog fish is really difficult to shoot as it more then macro .. so I can't go really close up

I love this orangy anemone .. soft and I put the camera really close !

One of the problem I am having is the light, which is very good for macro/ close up subject, for anything bigger the lights are not wide enough.

I will try to upload more every week, stay with me. Or may be share with me your experience with compacts point and shoot !

101 Dive Sabah and Labuan @ Beyond Sipadan

101 Dive Sabah and Labuan jointly organised by Tourism Malaysia Kota Kinabalu and Sabah Tourism Board is with the aim of promoting diving destinations beyond Sipadan Islands of Mabul, Kapalai and Sipadan.

We are lucky enough to dive the islands of Si Amil, Denawan, Sibuan, Mantabuan and Boehy Dulang. Of which all of these islands are potential day trip diving sites with untouched and white sand beaches welcoming any tourist for day trip outings.

The most popular and well-known Goechala trail starts at Yuksam to Dzongri, from sub-tropic moss-laden forests of pine, magnolia and rhododendron. Continue to walk in the wild uninhabited alpine landscapes trail to Thangshing, after the enchanting Samiti Lake finally takes us up to Goechala Pass, where it is facing the Southern phase of Khangchendzonga (8435m), the 3rd highest mountain in the world.

ITINERARY

04/10 Day 01: Kuala Lumpur/ Chennai / Kolkata / New Jalpaiguri (Meals on your own)
Assemble in LCCT airport at 1230 hrs for Airasia flight to Kolkata @ 1430 hrs. Meet and pick up at Kolkata airport upon arrival at 1550 hrs, half day city tour and later transfer to Kolkata train station for night train to New Jalpaiguri. (Boarding time 2200 hrs; approx 10.45 hours’ journey).

05/10 Day 02: New Jalpaiguri / Sikkim- Gangtok (1677m, drive 5-6 hrs) –D
Morning arrival in New jalpaiguri, meet and pick up by jeeps to Gangtok. On the way, we stop and wait at Sikkim Check Post to get the permit stamp chopped entry Sikkim. On the way to Gangtok, visit Rumtek Monastery– the largest monastery in Sikkim and is an almost replica of the original Kagyurpa Monastery in Tsurphu, Tibet which was constructed by his holiness, the Gyalwa Karmapa in 1960. After lunch, the Institute of Cottage industry – an emporium at the institute sells handicrafts, thankas (scrolls with paintings), hand carved foldable wooden tables known as choksees and exquisitively woolen carpets, masks and dolls. If time permits continue to visit Ganesh Tok and Himalayan Zoological Park. O/N hotel.
06/10 Day 03: Gangtok / Yuksom (1760m; drive 5-6 hrs) - B/D
After breakfast, check out. Later drive to Yuksom through Temi Tea garden, Sikkim’s only tea garden. Enroute lunch at Ravangla (lunch on your own) and further onto Yuksom. O/N in hotel.

07/10 Day 04: Yuksom / Bahkim (2,745m /12 km/ 6-7 hrs) - B/L/D
We begin our trek today through a small village and stop at the Kanchendzonga National Park, check post for checking formalities. Continue to walk through semi-tropical forests, home to a variety of flora and fauna. Crossing the last of the two hanging bridges over rivers Paha Khola and Tshuchey, we arrive at Sachen. Break for lunch and continue to walk to Bahkim. We cross a long old swinging bridge over Prek-Chu, it’s a steep climb of 70 degree uphill to Bakhim. O/N camping.

08/10 Day 05: Bahkim / Tsokha (3050m / 1 km / 1-2 hrs) - B/L/D
After breakfast, break camp, we continue climbing steeply to the Tibetan Refugee settlement of Tsokha as we trek through pine and giant rhododendron forests. Here we also get our first view of Mt.Pandim (6780m) and Mt. Tenchinkhang which could be seen from all points of our trek. Tshoka itself is a small village consisting of about a dozen houses and monastery, inhabitated by the Tibetan refugees. A good day to relax and explore the village. O/N in private lodge.

09/10 Day 06: Tsokha / Dzongri (4030 m /9 kms/ 5-6 hrs) - B/L/D
We continue our uphill journey through temperate forest till Phedang (3550m), a large clearing in the forest with excellent views of the Kanchenjunga range of mountains. After lunch it’s a 40 min steep walk, as we reach the ridge’s top, Deorali Dara or Windy hill which one gets the awesome views of the Sikkim Mountains and its peaks. A nice leisurely hour walk through the rhododendron trees and juniper bushes before we reach Dzongri. O/N camping.

10/10 Day 07: Dzongri – Acclimatization / Dzongrila 4500m (40 mins) - B/L/D
Rest day for acclimatization. Rise early at dawn, a 30-40 mins steep hike amidst thin air to Dabla Khang (Dzongri-la’s top ) to view the sunrise on Kangchenjunga and the neighbouring peaks; Rathong 6683m; Kokthang 6150m; Kabru Dome 6604m and Forked Peak 6116m. Return to camp for breakfast. Free to explore, hike to Laxmi Pokhari and we can take a walk toward the Black peak for acclimatization from where we can see Frey’s peak and the Rathong valley. Return to camp site. O/N camping.

11/10 Day 08: Dzongri / Thangsing (3930m / 6 kms / 5-6 hrs) - B/L/D
The day’s walk starts with a short climb to a ridge followed by a rapid steep descend of 100m to Kockchurung and Prek river. Continue crossing some boulders and climb gently to the campsite of Thangsing for our lunch with view of Mt. Pandim and Mt. Kanchenjunga.. O/N camping.

12/10 Day 09: Thangsing / Lamune (4130m / 6 km / 4 hrs) - B/L/D
A gentle 2-3 hrs walk to camp at Lamune. While the camp is set up, we take a walk to Samiti Lake, 4453m with Kanchenjunga looming ahead of us. The trail goes past stunted rhododendron bushes, azaleas and past a prayer wall before ascending a moraine path to a ridge from where you can look down at Samiti Pokhari (4200m) a beautiful and sacred lake surrounded by snow capped peaks Mt. Kanchandzonga, Mt. Pandim and Mt. Thenchinkhang. Return to camp for lunch. O/N camping.

13/10 Day 10: Lamune /Goechala (4940m /14km/5 hrs)/Thangsing (2 hrs) B/L/D
Early morning excursion to Goechala (pass), one walk along the moraine path by the side of Samiti lake to view the east face of Mt. Kanchendzonga bathed in the rays of the early sun. We cross the ½ km sandy plain known as Zemathang, footprints of Bluesheeps and other animals are common sighting. After 2 hours, we arrive at the 1st view point of Goechala and walk further 2 hours to 2nd view point to enjoy the close up views of Mt. Kanchendzonga 8534m. Return to camp for late lunch and later walk to Thangshing campsite. O/N camping.

14/10 Day 11: Thangsing / Tsokha (3050m / 12km / 5 to7 hrs) - B/L/D
After breakfast, trek back the same trail till Kockchurung, from where we take another trail via Phedang to Tshoka. Hot lunch at Phedang and continue to walk to Tshoka. O/N in private lodge.

15/10 Day 12: Tsokha / Yuksom 2250m - B/L/D
After breakfast trek back to Yuksom (4 hrs) with lunch stop in Sachen. Check in to hotel, the night ends with a cultural feast! A warm cultural show performance by the locals. Overnight in hotel. *Tipping is most welcome, to encourage the folks to preserve the traditions and culture.

16/10 Day 13: Yuksom – Kalimpong (1250m, drive 4-5 hrs) - B/L/D
Morning check out of hotel, transfer to Kalimpong by jeeps. Kalimpong, a pristine hill station in West Bengal once belonged to the chogyals of Sikkim, formerlly under Bhutan in the 18th century and later annexed by the British, before becoming part of India at Independence. A healthy mix of Buddhism, along with Hinduism and Christianity can be seen here. Gumpas, centuries old Churches, temples, ancient Buddhist missionaries coexist here peacefully. We will visits Thongsa Gompa also known as the Bhutanese Monastery. It is the oldest monastery in Kalimpong, founded in 1692. If time permits will include St. Teresa church, Deolo Deolo view point, Science city and Dr. Graham's Homes Campus.
17/10 Day 14: Kalimpong / Siliguri (3-4 hrs)/ Kolkata - B/L
After breakfast, visit Mangal dham and Market day at Haat bazaar on Saturday (local called “Haat”) where twice a week, the convergence of the sellers from rural ethnic groups sell vegetables, diary products and handicrafts. Shop for Buddhist Thankhas, hand-beaten silver, Bhutanese weaves, Chinese lanterns, copperware, hand stitched clothing, Khukris, local handicrafts and local cheddar-type cheese and lollypops. Early lunch, drive to Siliguri for the overnight train to Kolkata. We will stop in Train departs at 2000 hrs. Overnight in Train.

18/10 Day 15: Kolkata / Kuala Lumpur (B/L at your own expense)
Arrive morning about 0830 hrs. Pick up in Sealdah station in Kolkata and continue with the city tour. Afternoon transfer to airport for flight home @ 1630 hrs.

Early morning transfer to the harbor to get on board a local motoized boat to Rinca. Morning in Rinca to see the activities of Komodo dragons in their pure environment. Then proceed to Komodo Island. Lunch will be served on boat. Afernoon trekking to Banunggulung in Komodo Island. Then you will have chance to swim and snorkel at Pink Beach before returning to Labuan Bajo. Large areas have been gained by land reclamation projects along what used to be the city's coastline. New malls, shopping centers, department stores, hotels and restaurants have opened or are still being built. Especially the area around the Mega Mall, just a few hundred meters south of the city's landmark Ritzy Hotel, has become a new center of attraction and popular meeting point.

The mall itself - apart from the usual Pizza Hut and Kentucky Fried Chicken - has some very reasonable shops and at present is one of Manado's few places where you can get a good cappuccino and other hot and cold coffee drinks.Some other parts of the city are still in a less good shape but efforts are underway to prepare Manado for the "World Ocean Conference" (2009) and for "Manado: World Tourism City 2010". Yet garbage collection doesn't always work as it should, road conditions are sometimes poor, and power & tab water supply is often problematic. However, compared to a couple of years ago improvements are clearly visible.In any case you are hopefully not visiting North Sulawesi with the expectation of everything being like at home.

Be a bit open-minded and adventurous and a stay in Manado with its hospitable and fun-loving population will be a pleasant experience. However, in terms of typical tourist sites it doesn't have much to offer, so if you don't have lots of time better don't consider spending too much of it in the city. Rather go for some of the many attractions in the surroundings which are described on this site.

Fancy putting the bins out and finding this!

Coconut Crab (Birgus latro) is the largest terrestrial arthropod in the world. It is known for its ability to crack coconuts with its strong pincers in order to eat the contents.

It is sometimes called the robber crab because some coconut crabs are rumored to steal shiny items such as pots and silverware from houses and tents.

The second photo gives you a good idea of how large these crabs are - a coconut crab is seeking food from a black trashcan.

COCONUT CRABS

The coconut crab is a large edible land crab related to the hermit crab, and are found in the tropical Indian and Pacific Oceans .

They eat coconuts for a living! How would you like to be on an island and come across a crab that is more than 3 feet from head to tail and weighs up to 40 pounds, with a pair of large pincers strong enough to open coconuts!

They can climb trees too, but they only eat coconuts that have already fallen to the ground. Coconut crab meat has been considered a local delicacy.

请向你的潜水训练班或教练咨询以下事项以助你选择：潜水的分类，潜水的国际组织和各自的侧重点是什么;休闲潜水的乐趣是什么，限制有哪些;该中心的潜水活动简介以及收费标准;初级潜水员的培训内容、时间安排、课程规范及要求标准;休闲潜水需要的装备及器材的功能、种类、特点、保养及品牌介绍;休闲潜水的基本常识等。

COLOMBO : Ministers in the Maldives have taken diving lessons ahead of an underwater Cabinet meeting that will highlight the threat global warming and rising sea levels pose to the low-lying atoll nation.

President Mohamed Nasheed will chair the meeting on October 17 ahead of the world climate change summit in Copenhagen in December, a spokesman told AFP from the islands' capital, Male. He said the 14-member Cabinet were taught scuba-diving basics over the weekend.

Nasheed was not present as he is already a certified diver. "The Cabinet will don wet suits and scuba equipment and dive to a depth of six metres, where a special meeting of the Cabinet will be convened," the spokesman, who declined to be named, said. "They will then ratify a pledge calling on other nations to slash greenhouse gas emissions ahead of the Copenhagen meeting." Cabinet members will communicate using whiteboards and hand signals.

The Maldivian archipelago, located south west of Sri Lanka, is on the front line of climate change and has become a vocal campaigner in the battle to halt rising sea levels. In 2007, the UN's Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change warned that a rise in sea levels of 18 to 59 centimetres by 2100 would be enough to make the Maldives virtually uninhabitable. More than 80 percent of the country's land, composed of coral islands scattered some 850 kilometres across the equator, is less than one metre above mean sea level.

The danger for the Maldives is so acute that Nasheed has raised the possibility of buying a new "homeland" in Australia, India or Sri Lanka for the nation's 330,000 citizens.

Dead rare shark caught in net

BUTTERWORTH: Four fishermen on a deepsea fishing trip found a dead whale shark measuring 5.36m in their net 50 nautical miles off the coast.

The fishermen, from Kuala Muda near here, made the discovery at 1am yesterday.

Salleh Hussin, 48, said they tried to release the one-tonne creature back into the sea after realising that it was dead but failed to do so as it was too heavy.

Researchers warn of decline in sharks, disrupted ecosystems

On this vessel, sharks are stripped of their fins, which are sold to Asian markets. The demand for shark-fin soup is one factor in the decline of the shark population in the Mediterranean Sea.

So dangerous that in the past two centuries, the shark population there has plummeted by more than 97 percent, according to a study by the graduate student, two colleagues at Dalhousie University in Nova Scotia and an Italian researcher.

They based their conclusion on evidence scoured from an unusually wide variety of records, including documents drawn from universities and archives, from fish markets and recreational fishing clubs, and from local accounts of shark sightings.

The paper, co-authored with the late Dalhousie marine biologist Ransom A. Myers and others, is only the latest evidence that some of the oceans' most feared predators are themselves in dire danger.

Another team of scientists has shown in recent months that the peril is global, concluding that all but two of 21 species of open-ocean sharks and their cousins, the rays, are facing the risk of extinction. Another found that the decline of sharks at the top of the food chain is disrupting marine ecosystems around the globe.

“Sharks are just one part of the ocean's web of life,” said Margaret Bowman, who directs the nonprofit Lenfest Ocean Program, which helped fund all three studies. “But these studies show if you pull out that one thread, the whole web suffers.”

The shark researchers – from Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the United States and several European countries – are engaged in a huge detective project, much of it inspired by Myers, who pioneered the first global shark assessment before his death in late 2006.

Culling both unconventional and traditional sources such as fishing data, museum records and scientific studies, they are tracking not only how drastically sharks' numbers have dropped in recent decades but also how their disappearance is transforming the marine world.

Several factors help explain why the shark population has declined in the Mediterranean, Ferretti said in a telephone interview from his native Italy. Fishing vessels are targeting them to meet the Asian demand for shark-fin soup, while simultaneously trying to compensate for the fact that they have depleted other fisheries.

“Some fishers have decided to switch to sharks because they cannot make up their product with bony fish,” he said, noting that the presence of so many countries bordering the Mediterranean has contributed to the fishing pressure there.

“At these levels, these sharks can be considered functionally extinct, meaning that they cannot perform their role of top predators in the Mediterranean marine ecosystems anymore,” he said. Ferretti and his colleagues published their findings in the journal Conservation Biology.

Two other papers published this spring suggest that once these predators disappear, the species they prey on not only increase in numbers but also behave differently once they are in less danger of being eaten.

In Prince William Sound, Alaska, Pacific sleeper sharks keep harbor seals from eating too many walleye pollock, wrote Dalhousie marine biology professor Boris Worm, the lead author of a recent paper in Trends in Ecology and Evolution, in an e-mail. Depleting the sleeper sharks in turn hurts the pollock population.

“We now understand that both on land and in the sea, large predators play important roles in regulating both the total number and the behavior of their prey,” Worm wrote. “Unchecked by their predators, some of these prey species can wreak havoc on ecosystems – this is one important reason to keep predators around in sufficient numbers.”

Another team of researchers, headed by Nicholas Dulvy, a biology professor at Simon Fraser University in British Columbia, found that in the open ocean, sharks that used to be an inadvertent bycatch for vessels seeking tuna and swordfish are increasingly being targeted for their meat and fins.

The group, which belongs to the World Conservation Union's Shark Specialist Group, surveyed 21 pelagic shark and ray species, and determined that only pelagic stingrays and salmon sharks do not face a risk of extinction. Others, such as thresher, ocean whitetip and shortfin mako sharks, are all vulnerable, they wrote.

Sonja Fordham, a co-author of their paper in the journal Aquatic Conservation Marine and Freshwater Ecosystems, said pelagic sharks, which regularly cross vast oceans, face heightened pressures because there are no international catch limits.

“Even though these are wide-ranging and fast-moving sharks, they are at risk,” Fordham said in a phone interview from Brussels, Belgium, where she advocates for tighter European shark-fishing regulations as the shark conservation program director for the advocacy group Ocean Conservancy.

Bowman said she and other advocates hope fishery managers will “figure out how to control fishing to prevent further declines” of sharks, and policymakers are responding. On June 19, the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) announced it would ban the removal of shark fins at sea in the Atlantic and Gulf of Mexico by late July and cut the permitted catch of sandbar and porbeagle sharks.

A week earlier, the House Natural Resources Committee advanced legislation that would institute the “fins attached” requirement nationwide. International fishery managers will debate this fall the idea of imposing worldwide shark catch limits.

Enric Cortes, a scientist at NOAA's Fisheries Service who conducts shark-population assessments along the East Coast, emphasized that scientists are still learning about the role sharks play in ecosystems. They may dominate more isolated regions, but they don't necessarily shape every marine environment they inhabit: “The jury is still out on that.”

Everyone knows smoking cigarettes is hazardous to their health, but a new study shows that cigarette butts can be just as dangerous for the environment. SDSU public health researcher Richard Gersberg evaluated the effects left-over cigarette butts have on marine life and found that the chemicals from just one filtered cigarette butt had the ability to kill fish living in a one-liter bucket of water.

Gersberg's study used three types of cigarette butts:

Smoked filtered cigarettes without tobacco
Smoked filtered cigarettes with tobacco
Clean un-smoked filtered cigarettes

In all cases, about half of the fish were killed with a very low concentration of cigarette butts.

"The most important finding in this research is that it seems to be the filter, or rather what's in the left-over filter that is most dangerous to our water," Gersberg said.

Cigarette filters are made of cellulose-acetate, which is not readily biodegradable.

Cigarette Butts Are Hazardous Waste

In response to these new findings, the national Cigarette Butt Advisory Group (CBAG) has made the recommendation that cigarette butts be placed on the list of hazardous waste.

"Each year, billions of cigarette butts end up on our beaches, and in our oceans, lakes and rivers," said Tom Novotny, chair of CBAG and professor of public health at SDSU. "Based on this new research, we believe that cigarettes should be considered toxic waste and new requirements need to be established for how they are disposed."

According to Novotny's recent article in theInternational Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health, an estimated 1.69 billion pounds (845,000 tons) of butts wind up as litter worldwide per year. In addition, the annual Ocean Conservancy's International Coastal Cleanup reports that "cigarette butts have been the single most recovered item since collections began."

MATAKING REEF DAY AND REEF CHECK MALAYSIA PROJECT
(5-9 JUNE 2009)

The Reef Dive Resort at Pulau Mataking in Sabah, Malaysia is pleased to announce the 2nd Reef Check Malaysia event is to be held on the 5th to 9th June 2009. This event will coincide with the well established annual Mataking Reef Day.

The purpose of the Reef Check is to monitor our reefs and continue the data base of the marine life in predetermined areas of our famous house reef. The gathered information will be submitted to Reef Check Malaysia in Kuala Lumpur for world wide publication and future reference data.

We invite divers who have an interest in marine life to join us. Divers do not need to be marine biologists! Anyone can join! It will be a fun weekend of diving with a purpose. The event will be very educational.

At the same time we will be conducting courses in Fish Identification and Eco Diver training. These courses are an optional extra.

Certain areas of our famous house reef will be marked with tape as a baseline. Divers in buddy pairs with good buoyancy equipped with slates and measuring tapes will be given separate tasks such as identifying and counting fish species, measuring corals, identifying little critters, etc. Photos will be taken for future reference.

菲律宾群岛西侧的巴拉望（Palawan）一带温暖的水域，孕育了丰富的热带鱼群、海底珊瑚礁群，及罕见的海牛，海洋资源丰富。由于位置偏僻、交通不便，硬件发展难免有些落后；但也因此，环境保留得十分原始，成为优良的潜水秘境。巴拉望除瑰丽的海底世界、洁净的沙滩外，地下钟乳石洞窟地形也很发达。

At Pantai Mak Nik, Kemanan, Terengganu, Again me and a friend went back to the same shop we were in last year where they sell the seahorse, it was still there now left only 3 pieces. It was more then 10 pieces last year when we stop for some keropok(fish crackers) and belacan (shrimp paste).

To our surprise when we drive around the other side of the beach, there are more sea shells on the tables waiting for buyers !! Its really hurts to see that these beautiful shells ended up on the table for sale !

I just hope that one day the demand stop so that the supply also stops. Just a little wish ... wishful thinking that I hope will one day be realize.

停泊島（PULAU PERHENTIAN）是一座位於登嘉樓州勿述縣（BESUT）海岸外約20公里的島嶼，名氣不遜於樂浪島。

有如其名一般，停泊島是一座提供旅客鬆弛自我的終點站，同時也是當地漁夫停留歇息的歸屬點。

與魚群同游海底世界
由大停泊島（PERHENTIAN BESAR）和小停泊島（PERHENTIAN KECIL）兩個主要的島嶼所組成的停泊島至今依然保持著大自然的生態環境，予人一種回歸大自然懷抱的感覺。

马达京岛(MATAKING ISLAND) 位于沙巴东海岸仙本那以东45公里外，与珍珠岛、舰船岛、马达布安岛、班丹南岛、波黑央岛、邦邦岛及丁巴丁巴岛组成仙本那海洋旅游中心（Semporna Island Park）。

从仙本那乘船出发只需40分钟。马达京岛面积为40英亩，相等于西巴丹岛的三倍之大，是由大小两个马达京岛组成。

该岛是一个闻名的潜水天堂，同时也是很好的度蜜月海岛，二人世界，逍遥自在。

Our associate media, FiNS magazine, had just re-launch their web going online. Here is what they have to say

" Welcome to our brand new website! As promised last year (see announcementhere), we’ve completely re-thought and restructured FiNS. Though we still refer to ourselves as a “magazine”, we’ve grown into more of a multimedia platform, as you can see from our revised site.

Taking a quick look around, you’ll notice that there are three primary components to the site: video in the FiNS TV section; short posts in the FiNS Blog section; and articles in the FiNS Magazine section.

The idea is to use all available media…text, photos, video, audio, etc…to bring you the most entertaining and informative features possible about dive destinations, underwater photography, conservation issues and more.

One of the nice things about this new format is that rather than having to adhere to a fixed schedule, we can upload content as and when it comes in…whether it’s a destination article, an interesting bit of news, or a nice video.

You’ll also probably notice that we’re opening up the main sections of our site to comments, so you can let us know what you think, add information, point out things that need to be amended, or even make suggestions for future stories. We welcome constructive feedback and interaction, but please…no flame wars!

To help you keep abreast of the latest content, we’ll be running two iTunes podcasts, one for video and one for articles and other content, so if you subscribe via iTunes, you’ll always know when we upload new stuff. Let's Travel magazine had just make a trip to one of our closest associates resort in Mabul Island staying in Borneo Divers Resort.

Shiau Yen had the privilege to do a Discover Scuba Diving in the swimming with DM Jacky and myself. However we are being met with strong wind and rain throughout our stay :( We tried to bring Shiau Yen down to the sea but the weather was not so good and Shiau Yen have problems with her ear thus we reserve it for her next trip back to Mabul.

Borneo Divers - Kids Scuba Camp 30/11/2008-1/12/008

Borneo Divers and its subsidiary Borneo Divers Training Institute, have taken another step forward in bringing in a new product which focuses on family ties `Kids Scuba Camp’.

This program will also promote Kota Kinabalu and Sabah as an ideal family diving destination particularly Tunku Abdul Rahman Park.

65 children and parents from Selangor together with 19 press and TV crews have taken part in the Kids Scuba Camp that will be held on the 30th November and 1st of December 2008 in Mamutik Island in the Tunku Abdul Rahman Park off Kota Kinabalu. The objective of this program is to promote family unity, responsibility and diving education.

These families will go through series of fun filled activities which will involve scuba diving for children from 8 years to 12 years old in the pristine shallow water Mamutik Island could offer and Boat Diving with parents for Certified Jr. Open Water Diver. Families will also have the opportunity to try out the SeaDoo Divers Propulsion Vehicle (DPV) during the 2 days program.

SeaDoo Divers Propulsion vehicle (DPV) is an easy light weight battery operated machine ( close to soundless) that is safe and easy to operate and it is a practical piece of equipment which can be used for snorkelling or diving. Introduction course as well as certification program are available and can only be obtained through only our subsidiary Borneo Divers Training Institute.

Apart from scuba diving, children and parents will jointly participate in local games such as “Main Gala” and “Main Kingking”. These games also give an insight on the traditional games of thus promoting cultural Sabah. Also organised are quizzes based on Marine Life and Diving Theory where winners will win exciting prizes such as Dive Watches, Scuba Gears and Dive Packages.

The Value of this Kids Scuba Camp program is to instil the importance of reef protection through diving education. Programs such as this will give birth to a new generation of young divers who are caring and responsible. These generations of divers will become the future educators of our aquatic realm to help overcome the degradation of our reefs and ocean environment.

Shark feeding in Payar Island

Our friend was in Payar Island last week doing snorkeling with her family and friends however this act encouraged by the local operator was not encouraging to the environment and marine life at all. Infact the shark may mistaken the toe or feet as food/meat; anyone there may be a 'victim' later on. Have anyone think of that ? And once it has beaten, the actions will be to kill the shark who did it ! But who in the first place instill the act and encourage the act ?

Feeding any fishes be it shark, moray eel or damsel or animal on land is against the cycle of natural habitant. Animals should find their own food rather then be fed upon. Animals should not depends on feeding they should be out there 'hunting' for their food. Fishes don't survive eating bread or snacks like prawn crackers or cheezels; FISH live on planktons and algaes. HUMAN, you and me, eats bread and snacks ! Try imagine if we eat the plankton and algaes, how can our stomach take the 'food' ??

A lot of snokelers are ignorant and unaware of such however local operators should be more careful and take up the responsibility to care for their very own livelihood. If the fishes and environment are destroy due to these effects, their bread and butter will be affected directly. For short term gain of making 'hu ha' for snorkelers who will leave the site after a day trip, the local operator do not realise that their very own act will affect their future. We have to be responsible for our future so that our children and generations to come will get to see what is Nemo or how does a shark looks like !

By feeding these fishes, they lose their natural hunting instinct and will not be able to survive on their own. If you keep feeding your child with food, how are they going to survive the outside world ??

Sustainability and responsible tourism should be practice by every operator who are dealing with environment / nature tourism ! In actual fact it should be for all, everyone of us who are a part of this planet we need to care for the 'home' we live on.

The Underwater Environment

A person who is physically fit may not be necessary fit to dive. The underwater environment is stressful to the cardiovascular and respiratory system

As the depth increase, the air that is breath gets denser. More effort is needed to breathe in and out. The heart would also need to work harder by pumping at a greater strength than what it is normally used to.

The dense cool air under pressure can also cause problems to the sinuses and to the lungs especially those that have a history of asthma ( even childhood asthma ) or rhinitis ( running nose ). Some of these problems can be life threatening e.g.

Pulmonary barotrauma
Cerebral air gas embolism
Sinus barotrauma
Aural barotrauma

The underwater environment presents the diver with a weightless environment, up and down can be difficult to discern, sounds and vision are distorted, added to this is the disorientating effects of nitrogen narcosis.

As such the underwater environment can be disorientating particularly at night. And to someone who is anxious, it can be particularly worrisome.

A proper medical screening and education is able to allay the fears of the new diver and increase his enjoyment and appreciation of diving and make him want to come back for more!!!

Recently Jenny just came back from a diving trip with a bunch of funny divers

and the best divemonster in the whole of Indonesia (from Sulaweis to Komodo reaching out to Raja Ampat) to Bintang Flores.

Bintang Flores, the only starred hotel in the whole of Flores. Bintang Flores provides you with the warm bed and hot shower after a full day diving.

The restaurant serve tasty meals and no worry that you are not connected, hotel have the fastest speed of internet in the whole of Labuan Bajo (with a very reasonable rate)

The reception is cozy and tastily designed. Poolside and beachfront is just less then 10m away.

Diving in Komodo is mostly current / drift dive with high chances of manta ray, dolphin and dugong. Visibility is always good !

Of course not to forget the Komodo dragon itself. There are 2 islands National Park where we can visits, Komodo Island and Rinca Island.

Diving in Komodo is virgin ! Corals are very healthy and fishes are plenty ! All come in schools .. rather then pairs !

Myth successfully co-organise the world's first SDI Underwater Environmental Awareness program in Tioman Island.

We were joined by budding singer Kit Teoh and AiFM DJ Picky and Li Kiang who had successfully graduated as SDI Open Water Diver.

Congratulations to the new divers !!

On behalf of Myth Team, I would like to welcome you to our blog. This is not gonna be any solid business sales or marketing blog, we are here to make more friends, to get to know more about the marine environments and to let you share with us our traveling experiences. The journey is going to be FUN FUN FUN

Myth Team consist of Calvin Tee or more famously known as Kum Seng to ALL his members (KSM). Calvin is an aspiring young businessman with a mind for details and figures :) the typical chinese businessman who are always on the look for improvement, looking for innovative approach to the business world. He is also very actively involve in youth movements and matters that relates to the chinese community. Overall Calvin is our finance guy !

Jimmy Ooi, our Marketing guy, is a Divemaster who had numerous years of overseas employment. He is the FUN guy to be with and the clown of the group. His eyes for the little creatures had earn him to have a list of divers on his back. He is big in size but little in heart, so don;t misunderstand him as the big bear but he's just a gentle giant .... like the whale shark is famously known :)

Petcharaluck or nickname Poo, is our lady in Bangkok. She can get the best service award, once yo are in Bangkok she will take care of you the best she can. Poo, in Thai literally mean crab, is the most diplomatic among our team and is currently learning German to further enhance her tackling German divers .. hehehehe

Marcus Tan or better known as mai kai tan or selling egg in Chinese translation, he is our IT genius who keeps this blog active and alive, the latest addition to the team .. he may be new but cannot be bully easily ! Once you see him you know who he is ... no. 7 !!!

Last but not least ... yours faithfully, Jenny W.Y. Lee as more famously known as Jenny or Jen ... I am the most decent among the group and the best and most well kept secret of all. I am the brain behind all the creation in Myth ! So be careful who you are dealing with ;p ... hahaha nah .. I am a fun loving person who loves adventure and taking risk .. risk in having a bunch of kids working with me phewww ! Well you can't envy much, this the fun part .. having new blood, new ideas and new waves !

I am everywhere in the industry, you can see me in Malaysia Sports Diving Association, CoRal Malaysia or FiNS magazine besides here in Myth. It is always my believe that we need to contribute our times to the industry, the community by spreading the word far and wide. To educate the next generation Y about marine and environment rather then only the electronic that is dominating our everyday life !
